What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?
I collected all sorts of treasures:
An old horseshoe that I found in the woodland behind my old church.
Gemstones.
I found a large rock that looked like it was quartz.
Teddies that people had made me.
When we moved home, my mother secretly got rid of it all, and still denies doing it. The only evidence I had left was the hat of my humpty dumpty.
They were my confidants, I used to tell them all my worries as a child.
Instead, I secretly learned to talk to imaginary friends, who I took with me everywhere, to look over me and protect me from harm.
I don’t even know if I have ever told this to anyone before.
I knew they were not real, but I needed them to be, I only let go of them in early adulthood and I never admitted it because I was ashamed.
If only I had had someone I felt like I could talk to.
