What personality trait in people raises a red flag with you?
Red flags.
What is a red flag and why should we look for them?
When is a red flag so much of an issue that it should be avoided at all costs?
We could spend hours upon hours debating, but mostly it’s relative to what is acceptable to ourselves on a personal level. What can we tolerate and forgive, and what crosses the line?
For me, I am discovering that one of the most important red flags is avoidance of accountability.
We are all guilty of this at times. Who really wants to look inwards and admit their misgivings or wrongdoings? Are we ready to make the necessary changes involved in order to abstain from those behaviours and tendencies going forward? It’s not easy.
If a person is truly regretful for causing harm as a result of their words or actions, then introspection is part of that process. But stopping there is not enough, it is not adequate to not elicit change from that point.
Relationships require constant introspection, constant effort and striving for better. Without that it cannot withstand the test of time. Accountability has to be part of the framework.
